John Stamos and Weird Al to Star in WILLY WONKA Live Smell-O-Rama Screening

We have no idea what a real Everlasting Gobstopper tastes like, but soon we’ll know what one smells like. And if that isn’t exciting enough, John Stamos and “Weird Al” Yankovic will be there when it happens. This fall, the Hollywood Bowl will screen special performances of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, featuring live-action performances from the actors in question, plus complimentary “Scratch-N-Sniff Golden Tickets.”

In news we first came across at ScreenCrush, Warner Bros. will hold what they are calling a “Live-to-Film Celebration” of the classic 1971 movie. The screenings at the Hollywood Bowl on November 3rd and 4th will show the original film, but all of the songs will be performed live. And have mercy, they have put together quite the lineup! Playing the famed chocolatier Willy Wonka will be John Stamos, with young Finn Wolfhard (who plays Mike Wheeler on Stranger Things and Richie in It) as Charlie Bucket, and “Weird Al” Yankovic as all of the Oompa Loompas.

Joining them will be Richard Kind as Grandpa Joe, Breaking Bad‘s Giancarlo Esposito as the Candy Man (who hopefully won’t be giving out any blue rock “candy”), and musician Elle King as Veruca Salt.

There will also be a costume contest, and audience members will be given “Scratch-N-Sniff Golden Tickets” so they can smell “aromas like chocolate and bubble gum” during the movie. They say “even the Snozzberries will smell like Snozzberries,” and you won’t have to lick paper to find out what that means.

Tickets go on sale at Ticketmaster on Saturday, September 23 at 10 a.m. PST.

We’re all in on this idea like an old man who’s been pretending he can’t walk for 20 years so he can stay in bed all day, but hopefully this is a step in getting us a viewing of the movie where instead of smelling the candy we get to eat it.

And we hope John Stamos and Weird Al are there for that too.

Which song are you most excited to hear live? What candy do you most want to smell? Use your pure imagination and let us know in our comments below.
