Will WONDER WOMAN Be Joined By a Male Superhero In Her First Solo Film?

After nearly fifteen years of false starts and cancelled projects, filming finally began on a Wonder Woman live-action movie this past week in the UK. It’s been a long, long road to get a Wonder Woman film before the cameras, as it’s taken forever for Warner Bros. to commit to a solo film starring the Amazing Amazon. This is after signing (then firing) Joss Whedon, and rumors of nearly every actress in Hollywood being attached to star. But finally, Patty Jenkins is directing Gal Gadot as Princess Diana, and there’s no stopping this train now.

But might Diana be joined by another superhero in her first solo movie? And a male one at that? French actor Saïd Taghmaoui (American Hustle) had posted (and then later deleted) our first Wonder Woman set image, which was how most fans found out he was part of the cast. The photo in question (which you can see below) showed Taghmaoui with actor Chris Pine, who is playing Wonder Woman’s love interest Steve Trevor. Based on their clothing, it confirms that the period for the movie will be the First World War, or at least it will be in part.

However, Taghmaoui had revealed his involvement in the Wonder Woman movie already, in French magazine Ultra’s October issue. In the magazine interview, he said:

I’ll be playing a superhero, but details are still under wraps, so I can’t tell you much. I was among hundreds of potential candidates, and I slowly became the favorite. It wasn’t easy. It took me three months. [I’ll have to go through] extensive physical training. Shooting was slated to begin in November, and will take about 6 months, in 4 different countries.

Now, it should be pointed out that Google Translator isn’t always very accurate; although he said he’s playing a superhero, he could have just been saying he’s playing one of the good guys. The photo from the set seems to indicate he’s an ordinary kind of guy, maybe a fellow World War I era pilot and friend of Steve Trevor’s.

Or, maybe he is playing a superhero after all. But there aren’t many male heroes in Wonder Woman’s comic book supporting cast, leaving us scratching our heads. Personally, after taking so long for Wonder Woman to get her own solo film, I don’t think she needs a male superhero to share screentime with. But if there has to be one…I hope he’s secretly the Martian Manhunter in disguise. That would be kind of cool.

What do you think of a male superhero in Wonder Woman’s first solo movie? Any guesses on who it could be? Let us know in the comments below!
