Yesterday, two things nearly broke the Internet: our George R.R. Martin/Taylor Swift mash-up and the new Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer. Although we had a blast making the former, we obsessively watched and rewatched the latter, analyzing each frame for clues as to what we can expect from one of our most anticipated films of the year. The trailer offered us our best look yet at Paul Bettany’s The Vision, hinted at a budding romance between Black Widow and the Hulk, and taught us a little bit more about Tony Stark’s tortured relationship with Ultron. Most of all, we saw the Avengers looking seriously badass while fighting countless miniature versions of Ultron.
Seriously, how awesome is that shot? Gushing aside, the most exciting part of the trailer might be what it portends for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As we mentioned yesterday, the trailer contained an Easter egg that hints at Ultron’s comic book origins as the Crimson Cowl. Taken by itself, it’s just a cool piece of comic book trivia. However, when contextualized with what else we see in the trailer and what our sources have told us, it may foretell something that could unite the villains we’ve seen across the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a form that has yet to be seen: the Masters of Evil. Join Jessica Chobot to find out how you might see Marvel’s cadre of superpowered criminals on the big screen on today’s episode of Nerdist News.
That’s all for today’s show! Speaking of sentient robots, check out Kyle Hill breaking down how consciousness works in Chappie on a new Because Science. Then, let us know your thoughts on whether the Masters of Evil could work in the MCU in the comments below.
The more I see Ultron the more he looks like a pile of recycled tires spray painted silver.
And please-please- let’s Not ‘Ship’ the Avengers. This isn’t my drunk kitchen.
You guys missed Stark picking up Loki’s scepter.
team Scarlet-Scarlett 😉
Did anyone else realize that both the Absorbing Man (Crusher Creel) and Mister Hyde (Calvin Zebo) are both part of the Master’s of Evil? Both have already appeared on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Tie in maybe?
im more concerned about the girl with the potential rack on 2:17 delicious.
Not only is quicksilver missing from that end fight, but there’s also no Hulk.
The Hulk is at the top of the frame. You can watch him step out as soon as the shot changes to the bird’s eye view.
I still think tony uses the mind stone to give Ultron intelligence.

She just cut the HULK down to size. Don’t mess with The Chobot!
