Why THE OFFICE Revival Will Never Happen

Thanks to Netflix, Amazon, cable channels, and even the moldy old broadcast networks, nothing ever dies in TV anymore. Twin Peaks, The X-Files, and, of all things, Murphy Brown have been given new leases on life. But there may be at least one beloved show that will resist the trend: The Office. It’s been just over a half decade since we checked in with the folks at Dunder Mifflin, and we miss them! At least one member of the cast has also expressed a desire to revisit their character. But today’s Nerdist News is going to explain why The Office revival just isn’t going to happen!

Join host and the only woman to punch out the Scranton Strangler, Jessica Chobot, as she tells us why The Office still holds a place in our hearts. It turns out that Netflix is responsible for that as well, with some fans claiming that they only subscribe to the service to watch The Office at their leisure. Former Office cast member, John Krasinski is on the rise due to A Quiet Place and Jack Ryan, but even Krasinski can’t seem to resist the siren call of Scranton. Last summer, Krasinski told Variety about his desire to check in with Jim…because he’s worried about the fate of his character.

So why can’t it happen? Former star Steve Carell recently addressed that issue while speaking with Esquire. The short version is that Carell feels that the time of The Office has come and gone. And he also thinks a clueless and sometimes insensitive boss like Michael Scott just isn’t going to fly in today’s world. It’s kind of hard to argue with that, and we’ve already got two seasons with ‘Robert California” to prove that The Office just isn’t the same show without Carell’s Scott at the helm.

Fortunately, we do have a solution that could scratch that Office itch. There are a lot of deleted scenes and dropped plot lines from the original series that didn’t make the final cut. We’d love to see a director’s cut of the series that reincorporates these lost moments. That would be the perfect excuse to binge the series again. Although real fans don’t tend to need an excuse for that!

Do you agree with Carell’s remarks about The Office revival? Are you also worried about Jim? Let us know in the comment section below!
