About a month ago, the much-anticipated Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hit theaters. And while no one can truthfully say that it was a box office bomb, Batman v Superman may represent a failure of vision. Critics mostly hated it, and even the hardcore comic book fans are divided by the battle of Martha’s sons. Everyone has high hopes for this summer’s Suicide Squad movie, but the question remains: What should the DC Extended Universe do about its Zack Snyder problem? Today’s Nerdist News has the potential answer!

Basically, Warner Bros. and DC should look for someone who can act as the “showrunner” for all of the DC films and give them a unified sense of story and style. Right now, DC doesn’t really have anyone in that role, and it’s fallen to Snyder by default. Snyder’s helmed the first two DC EU films, and he’s directing the two-part Justice League movie as well. For better or worse, Snyder is defining this cinematic universe before anyone else gets a chance to.

But who should step up and seize the day for DC’s cinematic future? Mad Max helmer George Miller? Suicide Squad director David Ayer? Dark Knight maestro Christopher Nolan? Comic book superstar Geoff Johns? The Flash and Supergirl producer Greg Berlanti? Or someone unexpected with a track record of pleasing fans with animated adaptations that were true to the spirit of DC’s icons?
