Whedon Does William: The “Much Ado About Nothing” Trailer

Sunscreen-obsessed singer-turned-director Baz Luhrmann isn’t the only one with a glitzy, modern retelling of a classic tale on the way. When he wasn’t grossing over a billion dollars at the box office for the Avengers or spooking us silly with Cabin in the Woods, Joss Whedon was filming an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s original rom-com Much Ado About Nothing in his backyard with an all-star Whedonverse cast including Nathan Fillion, Amy Acker, Clark Gregg, Alexis Denisof, Franz Kranz, and pretty much everyone else you’d expect. And the craziest part? Nick Fury comes out at the end to recruit Beatrice and Benedick for the Avengers’ Old English Initiative.

Are you excited to see Whedon tackle Shakespeare? Quemment below and let us know!

  1. Juliet (Yes, that's my real name.) says:

I too have been waiting for this since is saw the poster almost 2 YEARS AGO!!! It’s sure to be truly fantastic.

Also, Shakespeare isn’t “Old English”. It’s normal English, just set in an iambic pentameter. Just give it a chance. I’m even better it blows Daines and DeCaprio out of the water.

  2. Gillian says:

This looks awesome! I can’t wait to see it! Just when I think I can’t possibly like Joss Whedon more…

  3. Patches says:

On the DVD The should offer two audio options, Chinese and Klingon tracks. I no it wouldnt be possible but could you imagine the geekgasm.

  4. Brian says:

FINALLY – I’ve been waiting for this for what seems like forever.

  5. TJ W. says:

Gatsby’s not a modern retelling, is it?

  6. Jennifer says:

Is it possible to not be excited about this? I’ve been anxiously awaiting it ever since I saw it was a thing on the AV Club probably 2 years ago or so now. I just want it to come out in theaters already, do well, then get my DVD so I can watch it 5 billion times in peace. Is that so hard?

  7. Nikolas Dane says:

Anybody knows how big the realease is?? I live in south america and I was hoping that this could actually get here, even if it takes half a year. Cabin in the woods trailer is just now being shown, but at least it got here!

  8. Patty Marvel says:

I would l-o-v-e LOVE to see Whedon take on “Macbeth” just to see what he does with Lady Macbeth’s decent into madness. One minute she’s a homicidal harpy, the next she’s far more flipped-out than Ophelia, imagining there’s blood on her hands she can’t remove and she eventually takes her own life. Where’s the transition? Where’s the hint of this frailty when she’s talking her husband into bumping off the king? That’s probably the least-satisfying plot twist in Shakespeare’s plays and I’d like to see how Whedon would fix it.

  9. Tiffany says:

I am so excited for this! Much Ado is one of my favorite Shakespeare plays! I have a feeling this movie will replace the Kenneth Branagh production as my favorite adaption of this play.

This is for sure going in the physical library and not just digital download when it becomes available.

  10. Colleen says:

It’s a wonderful film. Don’t worry about the language (which is pretty clear) – laugh at the sight gags. Tom Lenk and Nathan Fillion should do a Shakespearean buddy-cop spinoff.

  11. Ben Z says:

I’m sorry. I’m sure it will be a good film, but I can’t take all the Olde English dialogue.

  12. Sebastian says:

I just love that Joss, having just come off of the most insanely grueling production of his or most anyone else’s life, makes this little diddy JUST to wind down…

  13. Jen says:

I can’t handle the awesome. I mean I would be happy if it was just that trailer.

  14. My god, Joss is just a go-getter! Give him a camera and a few weeks, and he will get shit done!

    This looks awesome!
