What’s Free This Month: June Brings METAL GEAR V Stealth Boxes in GROUND ZEROES & More

Thanks to Xbox Games With Gold and Playstation Plus, every month feel like the merriest of Christmases. Who doesn’t love a little Christmas miracle in June? After all, it’s literally the halfway point to the actual jolly holiday? For your convenience, I have compiled a list (and checked it twice), of the games available this month for each platform and their original price so that you know how much moolah you are saving. Though I am not directly delivering the games to your consoles, I like to believe spreading the good word at least makes me sort of like the jolly fella himself.

Games With GOld

There’s nothing too splashy this month on the Xbox unless you have yet to play Just Cause 2 on the 360. If you loved Pool Nation FX the last two months it was available, you’re in luck because once again it is available for download with GWG. Though it is strange that it has been free for the last 3 months now.

Double-FIne-05282015

Massive Chalice (Xbox One)

I absolutely adore Double Fine’s work so this one is exciting. Massive Chalice is a tactical strategy game with the all the charm the developer is known for.

MASSIVE CHALICE is a tactical strategy game set on an epic timeline from Double Fine Productions. As the Immortal Ruler of the nation, you’ll take command of its heroes, forge heroic marriages to strengthen your Bloodlines, and battle a mysterious enemy known as the Cadence in a 300 year war.

Just-Cause-2-05282015

Just Cause 2 (Xbox 360)

This is an oldie but a goodie. Run around with a grapple hook, wing suit, and a huge arsenal of destructive tools to play with. This game is a blast.

As agent Rico Rodriguez, your orders are to find and kill your friend and mentor who has disappeared on the island paradise of Panau. With the unique grapple and parachute combo, BASE jump, hijack and create your own high-speed stunts. With 400 square miles of rugged terrain and hundreds of weapons and vehicles, Just Cause 2 defies gravity and belief.

 Thief-05282015

Thief (Xbox 360)

If you are into stealth this might be to your liking. It is far from being a spectacular stealth game but it is decent enough. It would have been nice to get this one on the Xbox One.

Garrett, the Master Thief, steps out of the shadows into the City. In this treacherous place, his unrivalled set of skills is the only thing he can trust. As an uprising emerges, Garrett finds himself entangled in growing layers of conflict. Lead by Orion, the tyrannized citizens will do everything they can to claim back the City from the Baron’s grasp. If Garrett doesn’t get involved, the streets will run red with blood and the City will tear itself apart.

Original Price: $29.99 Initial Release: October 4, 2013 Available: June 16-30

PS+

Another strong month from Playstation Plus. There are some gems in this months list, topped off by Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes and Cloudberry Kingdom. With plenty of boob actioned toys and flame covered men, the hype train for Metal Gear Solid V is getting louder and louder. Choo, Choo, get in or get out the way!

Metal Gear Solid 5

Metal Gear V: Ground Zeroes (PS4)

Whether you are on board or not, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is on its way, with Kojima and all. Ground Zeroes, of course, is a glimpse of what is to come in the full installment later this year. Acting as a sort of demo, this mini-sized adventure takes place on a military base with plenty to do for the completionist. Though it didn’t originally go for cheap, launching at a ludicrous $39.99, it recently went as low as $19.99 digitally. Thankfully, you’ll be able to get it for free next month. Let the adventures of cardboard box begin!

A visually stunning chapter in a long-running, deeply complex series. This nail-biting mission onto a Cuban military base follows Snake as he attempts to rescue Paz from enemy imprisonment.

Original Price: $19.99 Initial Release: March 18, 2014 Available: All Month

 Skulls-of-the-shogun-05282015

Skulls Of The Shogun: Bone-A-Fied Edition (PS4)

As if a strategy game where you control the undead wasn’t cool enough, this title adds the undead samurai. Now that is exciting! The art style also has a distinctive Saturday morning cartoon charm.

This turn-based strategy game turned a lot of undead heads with its story of a Samurai Afterlife. Build an army of the undead, battle your opponents, and regain your honor.

Original Price: $9.99 Initial Release: July 29, 2013 Available: All Month

Super-exploding-zoo-05282015

Super Exploding Zoo (PS4, PS Vita)

Save some eggs with cute exploding animals. Yup, that is the premise for the newest game from the team behind Hohokum. It is incredibly adorable.

Players must defend all the precious animal eggs in the zoo from evil aliens who want to eat said eggs. How do you defend these tasty treats? With a herd of explosive animals, obviously.

futuridium-05282015

Futuridium EP Deluxe (PS4, PS Vita)

This is an on-rails, super trippy space shooter. That’s the best way to describe this. It features some fun arcade-style gameplay for all.

A psychedelic, retro-inspired shooter with crazy action, puzzle elements, and a bumping electronic soundtrack. May or may not induce random dance parties.

Original Price: $12.49 Initial Release: September 30, 2014 Available: All Month

 Call-of-juarez-gunslinger-05282015

Call Of Juarez: Gunslinger (PS3)

Want to explore the violent wild, wild, west as a gunslinger? I know, who wouldn’t? Call of Juarez does a nice job of capturing that feeling.

This first-person shooter celebrates the wild west in a big, bloody way. Take down anyone unlucky enough to cross bounty hunter Silas Greaves.

Original Price: $14.99 Initial Release: August 12, 2014 Available: All Month

Cloudberry-kingdom-05282015

Cloudberry Kingdom (PS3)

Brutal, colorful platforming, Cloudberry is known for it’s unforgiving difficulty. Platforming purists should give this one a try and attempt to survive the gauntlet.

The dev team behind this insane 2D platformer spent 2 years building an AI that could build a near-infinite number of levels for any difficulty. It looks totally bananacakes. Good luck with that!

Original Price: $9.99 Initial Release: July 30, 2013 Available: All Month

Well, it’s been another good month of freebies, but then again, when are freebies not a good thing? As exciting as some of these titles are, expect some new additions this month. Don’t be surprised if either Sony or Microsoft have a moment during their E3 conferences where they unleash more free games on the masses. Exciting times are coming everyone, so start clearing some hard drive space now.
