In my latest Because Science, I’m digging into the chemicals that kill in The Joker’s infamous laughing gas. Victims that breathe in the deadly miasma develop hideous grins and discolored faces before laughing themselves into the grave. Do we know of any poisons that could do that? And how accurate are the explanations in the comics? Surprisingly, a recent issue has a plausible formula!
