What? MRS. DOUBTFIRE Sequel In The Works

It’s been 21 years since we last saw Robin Williams don a wig, fat suit, and prosthetics to play a lovable Scottish nanny, but now Fox 2000 is set on creating a sequel to the family comedy, Mrs. Doubtfire.

The sequel will reunite Robin Williams and director Chris Columbus, with the script being penned by Elf writer David Berenbaum. And while a sequel was in the works in 2001 back when Bonnie Hunt was still attached as writer, the project never took off and Williams and Columbus went through a creative dry spell with the project slowly dying off.

It was only after Berenbaum became involved earlier this year that the project gained a breath of new life. Though it’s still too soon to know if the sequel will ultimately come together, Williams and Columbus are attached and apparently hopeful about the outcome. Surprisingly enough, the original title earned Golden Globes for Best Actor and Movie in a comedy/musical, as well as grossed over $219 million domestically, so maybe a sequel isn’t such a bad idea.
