Fans of Marvel’s Netflix series are going to have to wait until 2018 for Daredevil‘s third season to drop, but that isn’t stopping Marvel from re-positioning the Daredevil titles to take advantage of the show. That’s right, “titles.” For the first time, Marvel is actually treating the Daredevil comic as a franchise, complete with three new ongoing spinoff series.

Bleeding Cool was the first to report the news from MCM London Comic Con, where Marvel revealed that the Daredevil ongoing title will be joined by Elektra, Kingpin, and Bullseye series in February 2017. Elektra has had a few ongoing series before, but she was largely on her own and separated from Daredevil’s corner of the Marvel Universe. Elektra’s inclusion here (in an outfit very similar to the one that she wore on the Netflix series) suggests that she’ll once again have a much bigger role in the life Matt Murdock’s heroic alter ego. The second season finale of Daredevil hinted that we’d soon see Elektra again, despite her apparent death. Marvel also has a long history of changing the costumes in its books to better match the latest Hollywood adaptation. Elektra is just the latest character to experience that trend.

The fact that both Kingpin and Bullseye are getting their own comics is surprising, as Marvel doesn’t do a lot of books with villains as the leading characters. It also implies that both Bullseye and Kingpin will have a role in Daredevil season three. (It’s been expected that Vincent D’Onofrio would be back for the third season, as he often speaks about how much he enjoys playing Wilson Fisk.) Bullseye was a curious omission from the Daredevil show, because he’s one of the title character’s most iconic adversaries. It’s hard to imagine Marvel greenlighting a new Bullseye comic if it didn’t have a heads up that the TV division already had plans for him.

The whole point of getting the Daredevil comics to resemble the Netflix show is that Marvel’s publishing side would like to reach the casual fans who only watch the live-action series. By the time that 2018 rolls around, Marvel should have at least two trade paperbacks for each of the new series to sell in bookstores. And that’s why we’re pretty confident that they’re also window of what we can expect from Daredevil season 3.
