What is Marvel’s New STAR WARS: CLASSIFIED Comic About?

Next month, Kieron Gillen‘s popular Darth Vader comic book series will be coming to an end after two years and 25 issues. But Gillen isn’t done playing in the Star Wars universe just yet! Marvel has revealed that Gillen is already lined up for a new Star Wars ongoing series later this year…we just don’t know what it is yet.

According to Newsarama, Gillen and artist Kev Walker will be the primary creative team of the book currently called Star Wars: Classified. Obviously, that’s just a placeholder name. But it’s not clear when Marvel intends to make the official announcement. Given that the series is coming just a few months after Darth Vader ends, Newsarama made the natural guess that it could be a series about the fan-favorite character Doctor Aphra, and her murderous droids, BT-1 and 0-0-0.

We have to admit that a Doctor Aphra series could be a lot of fun, but she just doesn’t have the star power to stand alongside Marvel’s Star Wars and Poe Dameron as the only ongoing series set in that universe. It’s far more likely that the next series will once again go to a popular villain. After a solo Vader series, there are really only two options: Darth Maul or Boba Fett. But since Maul is currently one of the main antagonists of Star Wars Rebels, we’d say that Boba Fett has the inside line.

Alternately, a Star Wars: Bounty Hunters comic could feature Fett and the other characters introduced in The Empire Strikes Back. Gillen also introduced a few of his own bounty hunters in the Darth Vader comic, and this would be an excellent way to keep those characters around.

Star Wars: Classified #1 will be released in December.
