What Could Sharon Stone’s Small Role in a Marvel Movie Be?

Twelve years ago, Sharon Stone made her comic book movie debut in Catwoman, a film that has become infamous as perhaps one of the least-faithful adaptations of all time. But now, Stone may have a shot at comic book movie redemption, even if it is only a small part by her own admission.

During an appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden (via ComicBookMovie.com), Stone said “I am going to do a Marvel movie. I’m just doing a wee part in a Marvel movie, upcoming, and I can’t tell, because you know, you have to sign confidentiality agreements. But I’m going to do a wee part in a Marvel movie now. That’s it.”

Because Stone said “a wee part,” some outlets have inferred that it means she will play Janet van Dyne a.k.a. the Wasp in the upcoming sequel, Ant-Man and the Wasp. That would presumably reunite Stone with her Basic Instinct co-star Michael Douglas. However, Douglas has previously lobbied for his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones to play the onscreen wife of his character, Hank Pym. Additionally, Marvel’s Kevin Feige has stated that there are plans for Janet van Dyne in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which suggests that her role will be more than just a cameo. There is also the fact that the Ant-Man sequel hasn’t even started casting yet.

The most recently filmed Marvel movie was Doctor Strange, but Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is currently shooting now. Sylvester Stallone has reportedly filmed a cameo in Guardians 2, and director James Gunn does seem to enjoy giving iconic performers small roles in his films. We wouldn’t be at all surprised if Gunn had lined up Stone to make an appearance. But it’s much harder to pin down a role for Stone in that film, since even Stallone is rumored to just be playing a Ravager. Making Stone a female Ravager seems like a waste, and there’s no point in casting her as another Nova Corps member with a soft serve haircut. There just isn’t a Marvel cosmic role that leaps out and shouts “Sharon Stone should play me!”

Thor: Ragnarok is also slated to begin filming this year, so that would also be a possibility for Stone’s MCU appearance. In the ’90s, Stone was a dead ringer for Marvel’s Enchantress. She could probably still pull off that role even now. Alternatively, and if Cate Blanchett isn’t already playing her, then we think that Stone could be great as Hela, the Asgardian goddess of death.

Which Marvel movie do you think that Sharon Stone will appear in? And which character should she portray? Let us know in the comment section below!
