We’ve Got 2 New LEGENDS OF THE HIDDEN TEMPLE Trailers, Praise Olmec

I laughed every single time Olmec said “let’s rock” on Legends of the Hidden Temple. Every single time. I loved that line so much that I would get angry when he would say anything else. It would be simple to assume that I was an easily amused kid, but that’s not the case, because I’m a grown man now and I still think that’s a funny line. You know, cause he’s a rock. In fairness, maybe I’m just an easily amused adult too.

But the show wasn’t entertaining because it was funny (and make no mistake it was always funny to see a contestant jump 10 feet in the air or hear host Kirk Fogg scream obvious “hints” from across the studio), it was entertaining because it was really exciting, and as much as we laughed at those kids leaping in terror when a temple guard snatched one of them up during the final run, the guards scared the crap out of us as well.

Those dual elements of the show—fun but also anxiety-inducing—help explain why today Nickelodeon gave us not just one, but two, very new, very different trailers.

The first, which you can see in our YouTube player above, starts off almost like a parody of a 90s slapstick comedy, and it mostly focuses on the three children trapped in the temple—Sadie (Isabela Moner), Noah (Colin Critchley), and Dudley (Jet Jurgensmeyer). As children of the 90s that were obsessed with the show and wanted nothing more than to be contestants on it (mostly to prove how easy it should have been to put that stupid Silver Monkey together), it shouldn’t surprise us that this movie is clearly designed for kids today. Though we have a feeling people in their 30s end up being a big portion of the viewing audience when it premieres this November.

However, the movie’s other new trailer that came out today, which was shared by Buzzfeed, is much more ominous and grand, focusing on the many grave dangers faced by the kids.

The tone and feel here is far more dramatic and ominous than the first one released at Comic-Con or the other trailer above, and this one accurately captures what made the show one of the best kid’s game shows ever. The action and excitement of that final Temple Run—and the fear of those damn temple guards—really made the show what it was. It would appear that while the movie is concerned with being fun, it didn’t forget that the real fun of the show was in how exciting it seemed to compete on it.

Plus it also has the show’s host, Kirk Fogg, the original voice of Olmec, purple parrots, green monkeys, and red jaguars. Oh, yeah, and that damn Silver Monkey. Because the guards were only the second worst part about entering the temple.

Legends of the Hidden Temple debuts on Nickelodeon on November 26th.

What did you think of this trailer? What were you most excited by (not that damn silver monkey obviously)? The choice is yours and yours alone, but we’d really appreciate it if you told us what you think in the comments below.
