On Thursday, HBO gave Westworld fans a season two trailer that promises a (very) bloody good time at our favorite murderous amusement parkâat least for the hosts. But as excited as viewers are to see this year’s robotic uprising take up arms, they’re just as excited about what they will get to hear. Because a new season also means getting great new instrumental covers of iconic pop songs from the show’s brilliant composer Ramin Djawadi. And today’s teaser didn’t disappoint, as it was set to an amazing version of Nirvana‘s “Heart-Shaped Box.” But you don’t have to wait to see Dolores again or risk getting shot by Teddy to hear it, because you can listen to it right now.
There aren’t many (any?) shows that could eschew an actual trailer full of tantalizing footage and just post an instrumental song to get us eager to strap on our boots and cowboy hat, but Westworld‘s soundtrack is that good. Comparing these haunting, beautiful covers to the original songs only enhances how much we enjoy them.
There’s no word yet on when the soundtrack for season two will be made available, but that’s fine because it’s just an excuse for us to go back and listen to season one’s incredible album. Because as much as we love watching a bunch of android cowboys exact revenge on their oppressors, we love listening to the songs they do it to just as much.
Westworld returns to HBO on Sunday, April 22.
