Wes Craven Bringing THE PEOPLE UNDER THE STAIRS, WE ARE ALL COMPLETELY FINE to Syfy

Syfy continues to distance themselves from solely being the network that brought you Sharknado by signing a deal with horror master Wes Craven to oversee adaptations of his feature film The People Under The Stairs and Daryl Gregory’s novel We Are All Completely Fine. Deadline also reports that Craven is working alongside Syfy to develop a series based on Disciples, a graphic novel by Steve Niles that is due out later this year. This news comes on the heels of the announcement that Syfy recently ordered a pilot from Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s production company, which sounds to be more in the science fiction vein of Disciples. Craven is slated to write and direct the pilot for We Are All Completely Fine and produce The People Under The Stairs with Michael Reisz writing and producing, as well.

It’s clear that Syfy has felt the critical success of their adaptation of 12 Monkeys and are running with it, and as a fan, I am thrilled. Craven is my favorite horror auteur and The People Under The Stairs, while totally goofy in its execution, has incredible social relevance dealing with race and class, especially today. The adaptation is being described as “a contemporary Downton Abbey meets The Amityville Horror.” Fantastic.

Equally exciting is the premise of We Are All Completely Fine, the story of a psychologist who treats a group of five patients who have all survived horror trope style attacks and delves into their scary personal histories. Craven, who hasn’t directed a feature since Scream 4 in 2011, is slated to step behind the camera for the first episode if it goes to pilot.
