We’re Very Into This Creepy Murder Mystery Game Developed by a Team of Young Girls

It’s always great to see programs that are geared towards getting young ladies on track for the tech, science, or mathematic career paths. Girls Make Games, based in San Jose, is one such program that encourages young girls to take a leap into the male-dominated world of video game development. From that initiative came Interfectorem, a project that was developed by a young group of middle school aged girls known as the “Team Who Must Not Be Named.” Check it out above.

Anytime I see one of these projects, I (and I’m sure many other people) think, “Wow, what was I doing at that age?” In most cases, kids that young are probably focused on getting good grades in school and forming social connections, which are both important things. But seeing these girls band together to create something well beyond the realm of a standard class project is on a whole other level.

The fact that Interfectorem sounds genuinely intriguing is the cherry on top. It straddles the murder mystery and action-adventure genres and tells a pretty gruesome tale. According to the Kickstarter page, it strikes a “delightful balance between humor and horror (think Nancy Drew meets Shaun of the Dead).” Yes to all of that.

The game won Grand Prize at the 2nd Annual Girls Make Games Demo Day that was hosted at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, California back in July of  2015. After three weeks of prep, groups of girls from GMG camps across the U.S. pitched the ideas to industry veterans. Following its success, the Intersectorem project was Kickstarted and subsequently funded. It surpassed the $10,000 goal with a total intake of $12,701. Since then, the game launched and can be purchased here for $5.

The official plot synopsis is below:

Interfectorem is the story of Alis, a young sheriff-in-training who lives alone with her sister Sali in a small town next to the woods. Alis decides to go on a hike one day, but comes home to find her younger sister brutally murdered! Overcome with grief and vengeance, Alis embarks on a mission to find her sister’s killer by following the trail of bodies the murderer leaves behind. She must return the favor of death!

That last line was my favorite part. I am really curious about how the young devs plan on delivering on Alis’ mission. It also makes me wonder what actually inspired the plot. I have so many questions, you guys.
