Well, Hi There Silver: New Trailer for “The Lone Ranger”

Modern action movie meets classic western sensibilities? The Lone Ranger was a staple of pop culture from the days of radio through to the early ’80s in television syndication. Two failed reboots have kept him out of relevance for roughly thirty years. It seems like fans of the Lone Ranger will finally have something to cheer about. The tone of the trailer matches what I remember fondly about the show, charisma and suspense. We herby have permission to have fun and try to enjoy this movie. It doesn’t look like we’re going to get anything like a steampunk spider, so we can at least breathe that sigh of relief.

Here’s the official breakdown:

From producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Gore Verbinski, the filmmaking team behind the blockbuster Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, comes Disney/Jerry Bruckheimer Films’ The Lone Ranger, a thrilling adventure infused with action and humor, in which the famed masked hero is brought to life through new eyes.  Native American spirit warrior Tonto (Johnny Depp) recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid (Armie Hammer), a man of the law, into a legend of justice—taking the audience on a runaway train of epic surprises and humorous friction as the two unlikely heroes must learn to work together and fight against greed and corruption.

The Lone Ranger also stars Tom Wilkinson, William Fichtner, Barry Pepper, James Badge Dale, Ruth Wilson and Helena Bonham Carter.

A Disney/Jerry Bruckheimer Films presentation, The Lone Ranger is directed by Gore Verbinski and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and Gore Verbinski, with screen story by Ted Elliott & Terry Rossio and Justin Haythe and screenplay by Justin Haythe and Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio. The Lone Ranger releases in U.S. theaters on July 3, 2013.

And just as a reminder of what we’re really talking about adapting, here is the opening of the tv show.

Wait… Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter in the same movie, and Tim Burton had nothing to do with it? How did this happen? And does that mean it might actually be worth watching?

  2. toddhaney says:

    Can’t wait-um for much-good movie to arrive!

  3. SharlzG says:

This has not been on my “to watch” list….until now. I was worried that it would spend too much time on the cheesy site of the line and thus stray in the the lame department, but the trailer seems to suggest a good balance of humour and suspense. hmm… I may actually be looking forward to seeing this now.

Yeah. I’m just saying, I think this movie is going to flop. It’s been too long since lone ranger was on, the audience for it is gone, or at least has shrunk considerably.
