“Weird Al” Yankovic’s CAPTAIN UNDERPANTS Theme Song is a Ton of Fun

“Weird Al” Yankovic’s CAPTAIN UNDERPANTS Theme Song is a Ton of Fun

Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie seems to have been cast pretty perfectly, with a voice lineup that includes Kevin Hart and Thomas Middleditch as George and Harold, Nick Kroll as Professor Poopypants, and Ed Helms as the titular underwear-bearing hero. The same holds true for the artist behind the movie’s theme song, because that was an absolutely perfect pick. If you had to think of one musician to create a theme for a film about two crafty kids who turned their principal into a delusional and barely-clothed superhero, “Weird Al” Yankovic would be one of the first to come to mind. He’s the one who did the song, and as you’d expect, it came out as a fantastic ode to underwear (via Entertainment Weekly).

“It’s not a bird and it’s not a plane, and it’s not an egg salad sandwich,” Yankovic sings in the song’s first verse. “It’s the waistband warrior. Hear his mighty battle cry: Tra la la!” The perfectly goofy Weird Al penned a perfectly goofy song for a perfectly goofy character, and it’s just perfect. Of course the guy who has released singles titled “My Bologna,” “Living With A Hernia,” and “Lasagna” would nail this assignment, since he’s essentially been practicing for it since the ’70s.

What do you think of the song? Give it a listen above and let us know what you think, and then revisit our feature about why Captain Underpants has been so great for fostering the creativity of children for years.
