Weezer’s “Thank God For Girls” Video Stars Rivers Cuomo as a Corrupt Preacher

Weezer debuted single “Thank God For Girls” a few weeks ago with a wacky lyric video, which featured a whole mess of cannolis and biblical imagery. In the band’s official music video for the song, they double down on the latter aspect, with frontman Rivers Cuomo playing a corrupt and sensational preacher.

Cuomo hosts rowdy sermons, where he claims to cure afflicted members of the congregation of their various ills while taking everybody’s money, which he later gambles in card games with a strippers and assorted sketchy characters. The good news is that if you really dug the long-haired cannoli eater from the lyric video, he and his pastry of choice make an appearance here.

Cuomo previously said of the song, “I’m not a huge fan of rapped out sections in songs but there’s a lot of cool work going on here with harmonies. I think the music is really great, I’m a huge fan of organs being used and piano in the verse. It’s a perfect mix of weezer past and future. The chorus soars on melodic wings. It rocks sooooo hard. I can’t really compare it to anything specific we’ve ever done. But I can’t wait for more!”

This video actually isn’t the first time a rocker has portrayed a non-virtuous and corrupt preacher on-screen: Last summer, Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst starred in and directed a short film called The Truth in which he plays a similar but more fleshed-out version of Cuomo’s preacher.
