Weezer’s Music Video for ‘Go Away’ Reminds Us of Tinder’s Silliness

After watching Weezer’s brand new video for “Go Away” from last year’s Everything Will Be Alright In The End, I feel strongly about swiping right on life and not ever using Tinder again. I do not want to willfully live in a world where a slab of raw meat can determine my romantic destiny.

Commenting on the overt absurdity of the mega-popular dating app, Rivers Cuomo dumpster dives to switch up his #PersonalBrand—in the hopes of wooing his love interest—who just so happens to be Bethany Cosentino, the lead singer and guitarist of the band Best Coast. After several failed attempts at rebranding—surfer bro, boho audiophile, and frat douche all take a specific kind of person that is not Rivers Cuomo—Cuomo turns to good old fashioned IRL deceit. Remember those halcyon days when dating used to be so much more personal, and you had to lie about yourself in person instead of online? Ahhh yes, simpler times.

Everything Will Be Alright debuted last year via Republic Records, and you can stream the album below:
