STAR WARS Cosplayers Work with Humane Society to Promote Pet Adoption

Fans celebrated May the 4th, also known as Star Wars Day, in different ways. Some people watched the films, some raised a glass of blue milk, and others served the community. The latter is nothing new for the 501st Legion. The charitable costuming group often takes the time to work with non-profit organizations, and the Capital City Garrison in Eastern Ontario did just that on Star Wars Day. A few members suited up and volunteered their time to pose with some animals at the Ottawa Humane Society. Awww! It’s rather sweet when the dark side meets the cute and fluffy.

The adoptable shelter cats, guinea pigs, and dogs don’t seem too put off by their company. In fact, they look surprisingly at home nestled next to a Tusken Raider (Cecil), Garindan the Imperial Spy (Mark), and a Stormtrooper (Melissa). The series of photos by Rohit Saxena is certainly the kind of spread that gets your attention, and I applaud the Ottawa Humane Society for thinking outside the box and getting more eyes on the constant challenge of finding forever homes for shelter animals.

Because I am a fan of Star Wars, cats, and promoting pet adoption, I hope other shelters and 501st or Rebel Legion members run with this idea. There’s no such thing as too many pictures of Star Wars characters posed with pets. Imagine a Han Solo cosplayer holding a tiny kitten!

Have you ever adopted a pet? Share your story in the comments and help inspire others to do the same.
