Wednesday Addams Is All Grown Up and Over Your Street Harassment

If you’re anything like me, you grew up wishing for the kind of “no holds barred” romantic relationship that Gomez and Morticia Addams had and a best friend with Wednesday Addams’ intense sass. I swear, I had a totally normal childhood.

AddamsFamily

Regardless of my obsession with The Addams Family and Addams Family Values, few could see this week’s awesome funny video “Adult Wednesday Addams: Wednesday vs. Catcallers,“ and not chuckle at the situation.

The video is just one episode of the hilariously funny Melissa Hunter’s Adult Wednesday Addams YouTube series which she stars in and created. Hunter is a partner with Lorne Michaels’s Above Average and a finalist for NBC Playground, a program meant to discover new comedy talent. Hunter’s whole series is fantastic but this latest installment is a runaway success.

Growing up alongside the film version of Wednesday Addams – at least in terms of generation – I was always impressed with her complete composure, nonchalance and downright evilness when it came to every personal interaction. Now in my 30s, I feel completely confident saying that there are a lot of girls out there who would love to have the resources Wednesday Addams has when it comes to the jerks who feel the need to cat call us on the street. Hunter’s cat callers were, as so many men claim to be, in the end completely harmless. They thought they were funny with their insults but learned the hard way that some women are not to be messed with.

Wednesday

Melissa Hunter does a solid homage to the quintessential 90s Wednesday Addam’s actress, Christina Ricci. This funny short is more than just an worthy portrayal of a character I grew up loving. It’s a wonderful commentary on the real world, situations more women than you want to think of deal with every day, and the kind of power so many of us wish we had.

How do you think your favorite movie characters would react to the same situation? Tell us in the comments below!
