We Say Goodbye to the MythBusters

You can’t talk about great science television without mentioning or championing Discovery Channel’s MythBusters. For 14 years, the show has featured 3,000 experiments over 260 episodes — more than 1,100 myths have been tested, many more than once. But tomorrow night, it all comes to an end with the series finale. The episode is an explosive and emotional end to MythBusters, one that had me teared up by the time the final credits rolled.

We here at Nerdist just wanted to take some time to say thank you to Adam Savage, Jamie Hyneman, Tory Belleci, Kari Byron, and Grant Imahara. The show and your personalities leave a gigantic void, one that won’t be filled soon or adequately. It truly is the end of an era. I know I wouldn’t have gotten into engineering or science communication without them.

If you want a sneak peak at one of the four massive explosions featured in tomorrow’s finale, filmed at the highest frame rate ever featured on the show — 50,000 frames per second — check out the video below:

And what better way to look back at the institution that is MythBusters than with a montage of their grandest explosions set to classical music?

The series finale of MythBusters airs on the Discovery Channel tomorrow, March 5th, at 8pm ET/PT. And following the finale, the entire team will reunite for a special discussion of the show as a whole, also on Discovery.

What did the MythBusters mean to you? Are you going to cry during the finale like I totally didn’t do more than once? Let me know in the comments below.
