We Played WARCRAFT 101 with the Humans and Orcs of Azeroth

In the world of Warcraft, lore is king. The original Blizzard games (Warcraft: Orcs & Humans, Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness, Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos, World of Warcraft, and Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft) date all the way back to 1994, and now lead way to an even bigger universe, from the upcoming feature film to its graphic novel spinoff, Warcraft: Bonds of Brotherhood. And though the movie adaptation is more of a precursor to the series, it introduces the many different creatures and lands of Azeroth, from the humans that have found a quiet peace there to the Orcs who have found their way to a new home through a mysterious, dark portal. It’s an intricate world with characters that fans have loved for decades, so we can totally understand why newcomers to the franchise might feel a little intimidated.

But never fear! We sent Warcraft newbie Clarke Wolfe to assuage your fears. She sat down with Travis Fimmel (Vikings), Paula Patton, Toby Kebbell (Black Mirror, Rise of the Planet of the Apes), Robert Kazinsky (True Blood), Ben Schnetzer, and director Duncan Jones to find out what lore they picked up while making the high fantasy adventure. So grab your Doomhammer and hop on your Gryphon, because whether you’re a die-hard fan or a newcomer to the franchise, your knowledge will be tested in a little game we like to call Warcraft 101.

What Warcraft easter eggs do you hope to see in the film? Who’s your favorite character from the games? Let us know in the comments below!

Warcraft charges into theaters this Friday, June 10.
