Ever since Stephen Strange was mentioned by name in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, we’ve been wondering how the inevitable Doctor Strange movie would factor into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. During last night’s Doctor Strange IMAX preview event, we may have finally gotten our answer about where the origin story of Marvel’s Sorcerer Supreme fits into the movie timeline. By the power of the Vishanti, today’s Nerdist News has the details!
Before we leap into the mystic realms, consider this your spoiler warning! We’re gonna talk about some of the specific scenes that we saw, so this is your last chance to turn back!
Join Nerdist News host and rightful heir to the Dark Dimension, Jessica Chobot, as she relates the film’s surprising connection to one of Marvel’s Phase One films. If we’re right, this is a shout out to Iron Man 2; which means that Doctor Strange’s origin will unfold in approximately 2010, and he may have emerged from his magical training by the events of The Winter Soldier. Is it possible that Hydra tagged Strange as a potential mystical threat back in 2014?
That’s far from the only interesting thing to come out of the preview. In addition to the potential reveal of the film’s real villain, the footage showed the Ancient One taking Strange on a trip through the multiverse itself! Marvel’s Kevin Feige hinted that this is the movie that sets the stage for future phases of Marvel’s films. Could that be the way that we eventually see other Marvel timelines on the big screen? The possibilities are endless!
Doctor Strange is coming to theaters on November 4, and we can’t wait to see it!
