WB and TNT to Produce TEEN TITANS Live Action TV Pilot

While Marvel might rule the movies, DC Entertainment is making serious strides to be the home of comic book properties on television with Arrow, The Flash, Gotham, Constantine, reports of an upcoming Supergirl series and now this: Deadline is reporting that TNT is nearing a pilot order for Titans, based on the long running comic book team The Teen Titans. Warner Brothers is starting to expand the DC brand to cable drama, and Titans is one of three TNT drama pilots the network is seriously looking at as they are undergoing a change in management and looking to re-brand.

According to the original article,  Titans will be “written by Oscar winner Akiva Goldsman and executive-turned-scribe Marc Haimes; Titans revolves around the eponymous group of young Super Heroes-to-be from the DC Universe. The action series centers on Dick Grayson (probably best known for his alter ego as Robin), who emerges from the shadow of Batman to become Nightwing, the leader of a fearless band of new Super Heroes including Starfire, Raven and many others.” I would be negligent if I didn’t mention that Akiva Goldsman also wrote Batman Forever and Batman & Robin, the last live action appearances of Dick Grayson, but let’s not hold that against him.

The fact that they named dropped Dick Grayson, Starfire and Raven means they are probably basing this show on the celebrated New Teen Titans series by Marv Wolfman and George Perez from the eighties, which was once DC Comics’ most popular title. That team was also the basis for the very popular Cartoon Network series that ran from 2003-2006, and currently lives on as Teen Titans Go! The Deadline article included a picture from the 1980s animated anti-drug PSA featuring the New Teen Titans characters, but I wouldn’t take it as an indication that’s the exact team line-up were are going to see.  The Titans have a flying alien, a green dude who changes into green animals, a half robot guy, and a teleporting witch, so it’ll be a challenge to see how they plan on making this with a television budget.

  3. Alicia says:

Ether it will be cheesy and bad or really, really awesome:) I just hope it’s good:)

  4. Why not bring back the original animated series? The ending, while being kinda beautiful, was lackluster and disappointing, why not bring back something that was amazing

  5. Rae says:

Cody Christian as Beast Boy and Liz Gillies as Raven.  That is all I have to say.  It doesn’t matter to me who else they get to play as Nightwing, Starfire and Cyborg.  I’ve been waiting for a live-action Teen Titans series (or movie) forever.  I’m excited and can’t wait to see how this turns out.

    When there’s trouble u know who 2 call! …

  7. ClasikRok says:

This is the show I’ve been hoping and praying they’d do for years!! Hopefully, if this makes it to series, they’ll bring in Wolfman and Perez as consultants. Would love it if they could tie it into the Arrow/Flash universe so they could bring Roy Harper/Arsenal over as well.

  8. Bill says:

This can’t be Teen Titans without some manifestation of superpowers.  Hoping this doesn’t look like a cheesy SyFy show.  Let’s hope the writing is good and the effects don’t suck.

  9. James Smith says:

Isn’t Cyborg going to be part of the Movies?  They might not allow him here.  Which would suck.

  10. GeekBob says:

I would love to see it tie into the Arrow and Flash series if they could.  Where Marvel has the MCU, DC could really dominate the TCU

  11. TItans GO! says:

As long as they keep the five main from the tv series because those titans rock

  12. Brittani says:

Personally, I’d really like to see young actors portray the heroes. The nice thing about the recent Cartoon Network update was that it was easy to believe the Titans were actually teens: everyone was a bit skinny and gawky and hadn’t quite grown into their bodies yet. I think it’s good for young people to see people acting in roles where they actually share the same age. Often we have older actors playing younger characters, and it gives people a weird perception of a person’s actual age that they project onto themselves and their peers. So…I’d go for some new, young, unknown talent and hopefully give some good actors their first real breaks. 🙂 But that’s just me.

  13. Supreme Power says:

If Akiva Goldsman wrote “Batman & Robin”, we very much SHOULD hold that fact against him!!

    • LeeHarveyC says:

      Yup, this.

“…Akiva Goldsman also wrote Batman Forever and Batman & Robin, the last live action appearances of Dick Grayson, but let’s not hold that against him.”
What are you talking about? Let’s! Let’s!
That should always be held against him.

      “I got an Oscar.”
“Yeah, but you wrote Batman and Robin.”
“My films made so-and-so much money!”
“Yeah but you wrote Batman and Robin!”
“I’m a nice guy and a decent person!”
“Yeah, but… no, you’re not, you wrote Batman and Robin, as pure an expression of hate as I have ever seen.”

      • Dane says:

You can have a couple stinkers in any medium. Even Spielberg has dropped the ball a bit in the past. He also wrote some incredible movies too. His good scrips trump the couple crappy movies he’s written.

  14. About time! Can’t wait!
