HBO Has “Very High Hopes” for Damon Lindelof’s WATCHMEN Pilot

Whether or not you’re excited about HBO’s Watchmen pilot, it can’t be denied that everything that’s been coming out recently about Damon Lindelof‘s take on the popular graphic novel is a good sign.

First came Lindelof’s open letter on Instagram proving that of all people, he is truly the right choice to bring this new adaptation to life (He’s a fan, guys! He knows the source material inside and out from a lifetime of loving it! He’s one of us!). But now the head of HBO is speaking out on the upcoming project and it’s yet another voice of confidence to quiet the naysayers asking if we really need another Watchmen adaptation.

Speaking at the 2018 Summer Television Critics Association press tour, HBO President Casey Bloys told the room full of journalists that the development process has been “amazing so far,” and he expects to make a decision on ordering the pilot to series “hopefully as soon as possible.”

“But, you know, we have to see the pilot [first],” Bloys said. “We have very, very high hopes. They did a great job. He wrote a phenomenal script. I think we see it in a few weeks so we’ll see.”

The network hopes  Lindelof will be able to go into production quickly as soon as the pickup comes, so fans won’t have to wait as long as they may think to see the Watchmen series come to life. Maybe that’s when we’ll finally get an official answer from fans and haters alike as to whether or not we really need another Watchmen project.
