Watch Two ASSASSIN’S CREED Clips, and More Movie News

Since we’ve heard from pretty much everyone we know who’s seen it that Rogue One, which hits theaters this week, is a helluva lot of fun, we can now safely turn our attention to other matters, like this holiday season’s next big genre epic: the long-awaited adaptation of Assassin’s Creed. We’ve got two brand-new clips from the film in today’s Movie Morsels, along with the latest from Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, Logan, Christopher Nolan‘s next project, and more!

Assassin’s Creed

Two things in the following clips from Assassin’s Creed give me hope that the film could be a marked improvement over most video game adaptations we’ve seen over the years. First, the attention paid to real sets, natural lighting, and a general sense of physicality that makes it look much more akin to Raiders of the Lost Ark than Resident Evil. Second, the film’s meta commentary on video games in general, with Michael Fassbender’s character essentially playing the role of his own ancestor in a kind of virtual reality game overseen by Marion Cotillard. Fingers crossed that the final product proves as intriguing as these previews.

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter

And speaking of Resident Evil, two new TV spots have landed online for The Final Chapter, a.k.a the last we’ll supposedly see of Milla Jovovich in the role of warrior woman Alice. Here, the savior of Raccoon City returns to her point of origin, while learning that one of her allies is plotting against her. Also, you can see Games of Thrones‘ Iain Glen back in his role as the franchise’s Big Bad!

Moana

Judging by its box-office take, most everyone has seen Moana by now, so it’s not exactly a spoiler anymore to feature a clip of one of the film’s most acclaimed song sequences, “How Far I’ll Go.” The number features the vocal talents of the animated film’s title star, acting newcomer Auli’i Cravalho.

Logan

In the wake of Deadpool‘s success earlier this year, Fox was open to allowing an R rating for the final film to star Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. But did you know that Jackman wound up taking a pay cut in order to ensure the James Magold-directed Logan got that rating? Mangold himself broke that news at Ain’t It Cool’s annual Butt-Numb-A-Thon film marathon in Austin, where 40 minutes of the film was screened. High praise resulted from those in attendance, who’ve said that Wolvie will now be seen in his full “berserker” fury on the big screen. Hey, maybe this time he really will be the best there is at what he does!

Dunkirk

Finally today, the poster for Christopher Nolan’s next film makes it look like it’ll be just as intense as most every other movie on Nolan’s resume. A historical war drama about the British evacuation of Dunkirk, France, the film features a host of top British actors, including Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Kenneth Branagh, and James Darcy. And since it was shot in 65 mm and IMAX, we can expect its visuals to be off the charts.
