Watch This Surreal, MAD MAX-Esque Animated Music Video

Ever since MTV became an intravenous reality show delivery system, the internet has been the bastion for people looking to watch music videos. That does, however, mean the videos need to be more and more creative to separate themselves from all the billions of videos from bands that aren’t named Beyoncé. If you’re a band called Saverne—named after the commune in North-Eastern France—you’re probably going to need a trippy-weird video about a hallucinating motorcyclist to grab people’s attention. It sure grabbed ours!

The video—for the song “Hendrix” off of Saverne’s album due out February 24—was created by animation house Airplan and depicts a biker in the desert who has to obtain a specific green elixir to stave off the horrible hallucinations that come from the alien-destroyed future. Or at least that’s what we’re guessing happens in it; there’s truly no way to know for sure, and that’s exactly why we like it. It does a great job of showing us enough to sort of understand the plot without belaboring any points. Like, we get it; giant glowing orb caused LSD-brains for everyone. Simple.

There’s action, there’s monsters, there’s a cool looking motorcycle—this video has everything. Our favorite part, though, is toward the end when our hero’s hallucinations start getting the best of him and guitars begin lining the road and he rides into a giant mouth of Jimi Hendrix, the song’s inspiration. And then he’s in an astral Guitar Hero plane of existence and all is groovy.

What do you think of this video? Wouldn’t you watch a whole series of adventures of Acid Trip Mad Max? Let us know in the comments below!
