Looking back at iconic franchises is incredibly fascinating. Knowing their eventual trajectory is intriguing, like you’re some kind of time traveler. With that in mind, no character has had a richer history than Mario. He’s transcended the realm of video games. Our favorite turtle-stomping plumber has literally done it all, and has been very successful doing it. Because of his many triumphs, it’s not uncommon to relive his past glories when one of his new games is incoming.
If only we could watch an old school commercial for one of the earlier titles in the series. Oh wait, you can! YouTube user Satoshi Matrix has dug up an old advertisement that he claims is the first Japanese commercial aired for Super Mario Bros. in 1985. Whether this truly is the first one to hit the television waves is irrelevant in my eyes; what really matters is that we get to consume a little piece of history.
You can peep the video above to lay witness to the sheer awesomeness. Matrix has also provided (in the comments section) a supposed rough translation of what is being said in the video. Check that out below:
“Itâs the Family Computerâs Dream Adventure Game, Super Mario Bros.!
With a mysterious power, [Mario] gains a great transformation!
Explore the earth, underground, the sea, the sky, and much more to see in this complete world.
Itâs Super Mario Bros!
Also available is the ultimate kung-fu challenge.
Spartan X (Kung Fu)”
First or not, this is fun to watch. Now Nintendo knows to plaster Mario’s mustachioed mug on pretty much anything because he sells gangbusters. Which can be attributed to the numerous amounts of classics Mr. Mustachio has produced. I got my hands on  Super Mario Maker and loved it so don’t expect for the greatness to end anytime soon.
Make sure to hop into the comments section below and let us know which is your favorite video game commercial.
