Watch: THE VISIT Is The Latest From M. Night Shyamalan and Blumhouse

Confession time, friends: I have a soft spot for M. Night Shyamalan movies. Don’t get me wrong, The Lady in the Water and The Happening are inexcusable nonsense and I’m not going to pretend like I saw The Last Airbender or After Earth. I don’t mind telling you that I still like everything up through The Village a lot, however, even though I can admit that I don’t blame people for getting off the Shyamalan Express on that one even though I think The Village has something interesting to say about government, fear, and manipulation in a post-9/11 world, but hey, that’s just me.

The Academy Award nominee has been in the cinematic doghouse with fans as of late but it appears that he’s looking to make a comeback. Shyamalan has the mini-series Wayward Pines coming to Fox this May–which looks crazy–and now the first trailer for The Visit, his super secret Blumhouse project, has hit the web and I won’t lie to you, I’m intrigued.

It looks like old-school Shyamalan with charming, natural beats between the characters and eccentric children (did you notice the little boy turning off the lights with a tissue?) coupled with those classic jarring visuals like the grandfather with the gun in his mouth or standing on the roof but told through a found footage visual style. Also, for a director like Shyamalan who, at his best, basically makes movies that are modern day “fairy tales,” I love that Grandma actually asks one of the children to get into the oven (hello, Hansel and Gretel!)

Are you intrigued by The Visit or has Shyamalan permanently burned the bridge over the river and through the woods for you? Tell us your thoughts in the comments!

The Visit hits theaters this September.
