Watch the Trailer for Studio Ghibli-Inspired Game NI NO KUNI II: REVENANT KINGDOM

Studio Ghibli doesn’t often get involved with video games, but when they have, it has worked out pretty well. For example, they worked with Level-5 on the 2011 Playstation 3 game Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch, producing the animated sequences. In part due to that beauty, we’re sure, the game went on to be one of the best selling PS3 titles, and critics were pretty into it as well.

Now, at this year’s E3, a sequel, Ni No Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom, was given a firm release date: After it was announced about two years ago, we know that it’s coming out on November 10, for PC and Playstation 4.

Ghibli isn’t involved this time around, although Level-5 CEO Akihiro Hino previously said that working with the animation powerhouse taught them a lot and inspired the sequel heavily:  “I can say that the sequel is a huge improvement to the first. We’re taking on a lot more challenges than before, so we can bring new features to fruition. The sequel fulfills the ambitions we had after the first game’s completion. You can expect deeper stories, rich in dramatic sequences you wouldn’t have expected from the first game.”

The events of Ni No Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom take place a hundred years after the preceding game, and follows a young king named Evan on a quest to become a stronger leader. To do so, according to the trailer’s description, “Evan will first have to forge a Kingsbond with a unique creature called the Kingmaker.”

Check out the trailer above, and let us know in the comments below if you think the sequel will live up to the high standards set by the original.
