Watch the Trailer for Daniel Radcliffe’s First Romantic Comedy, WHAT IF

Daniel Radcliffe has already played The Boy Who Lived, and now it’s time for him to become The Boy Who Loved. The trailer for Radcliffe’s first romantic comedy has been released, and I think muggles, witches, and wizards will all agree that What If looks positively charming. Spellbinding, even. (I promise that’s my last Harry Potter reference). The first look at the movie has laughs, awkwardness, and packs a punch of warm and fuzzy feelings.

Directed by Michael Dowse, What If is set for an August release and also stars Zoe Kazan (In Your Eyes, Ruby Sparks), Rafe Spall (Prometheus), and Adam Driver (Girls). The plot follows Radcliffe’s character, Wallace, as he meets an interesting girl played by Kazan. Wallace and Chantry become good friends, but Wallace falls for her even though Chantry’s already in a relationship. Uh-oh.

The film asks the timeless question: What if you met the right person at the wrong time? It’s not exactly groundbreaking territory, but it’s all about how the story is told. This one seems adorable:

Radcliffe appears endearing and funny, and I just want to pinch his cheeks. Kazan nails the quirky and sweet vibe. I’m already rooting for the two of them as a couple. Driver’s character seems to be a bit of a dudebro, but his lines in the trailer made me laugh out loud. Mix it all together, and the result is a movie that I would like to see immediately if not sooner.

How do you feel about the trailer? Head to the comments and let us know if you’re looking forward to seeing What If.

The automatic closed captioning for this trailer is horrible. My teen is deaf and Daniel Radcliff fan, so she wanted to watch this… but bad captioning ruined that. It’s not accessible.

  2. Emily says:

Sigh. He looked adorable yes. The movie looks awful. Every joke I heard was painfully unfunny. It looks charming and that might have to be what this movie has going for it. I realize rom-com’s are not exactly high art in the first place, but I’ll admit I’d hoped this one would at least look funny.

  3. Ryan says:

That’s not a trailer, a trailer is about a minute long and teases the movie – that was a short film.

  4. Osamah H. Qashou says:

Hey! That’s the chick from that Joss Whedon movie.. and this movies seems to have a very similar plot!

If they hadn’t given away the airport chase, I’d be totally for it. Isn’t it time to retire that cliche?

Never understood why some studios put out trailers that give away 99% of the movie.
