Watch The Roots Kill This Freestyle About Harry Potter

The Roots, Jimmy Fallon’s house band on The Tonight Show are essentially our nation’s barometer for what is empirically cool. And now have bestowed the badass blessing on all things Harry Potter with a brilliant rap that nimbly encompasses a good chunk of wizarding world news.

Tariq breaks it down over The Roots’ magically smooth beat and he covers all bases: Butterbeer, Diagon Alley, Gryffindor, Hermione, Voldemort – which, if you review that list, is a comprehensive collection of the most difficult words to rhyme. So books nerds, rejoice, we get some real street cred with this one.

What else do you think The Roots should freestyle about? Let us know in the comments below or at Nerdist Music! Our finger’s are crossed for Pokemon themed performance in the very near future.

  1. JC says:

Yep, very clearly pre-written and not freestyle. The images appeared before he even said the related words.

  2. Andy says:

This is a slick verse, but people need to quit throwing around the word “Freestyle”.

  3. Umm, yeah,…no, Definitely NOT a “freestyle”. Penned, rehearsed, and canned for your enjoyment.

  4. Caroline says:

Harry was a full-blooded wizard, yo.

    • grayson says:

      No ma’am..

    • Scott says:

no, he was half blood because his mother came from a non-wizarding family

    • Caroline says:

      Wizard Father + Wizard Mother.

      He’s at least three-quarters.

      • Ted says:

There are three kinds of ‘blood’. Pureblood (no non-wizard ancestors), Mudblood (no wizard ancestors), and Half-Blood (somewhere in between). Thus the concern Harry might be the Half-Blood Prince.
