Watch The First Trailer For MARVEL’S DAREDEVIL

After the briefest of teases yesterday, the full trailer for Marvel’s Daredevil has arrived. (Technically, they’re calling it a teaser trailer, but let’s agree to disagree.) Matt Murdock fights against injustice in Hell’s Kitchen both by the book and as vigilante. He’s a lawyer by day, Daredevil by night. The first Daredevil trailer doesn’t show Murdock in the courtroom as far as I can tell, but we get plenty of him in both civilian clothes and his costume. Watch:

The first thing that jumps out at me is he only wears the all-black costume. While I’m desperate to see the classic red costume, that wasn’t the first outfit Daredevil wore in the comics. It evolved over time. Daredevil executive producer Steven S. DeKnight said as much to IGN (they debuted the trailer this morning) and explained, “One, this really is the beginning, the formation of Matt Murdock a Daredevil. On the flip side, it’s the formation of Wilson Fisk becoming Kingpin. It’s very much a parallel arc. We didn’t want to start him in the [red] suit. We wanted the early days of him figuring out what he was doing and making mistakes and getting the crap beat out of him on a regular basis.”

A few scenes in the trailer looked right out of the pages of comics. We only see Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk, a.k.a Kingpin, from behind, but it made it clear he is an imposing figure. Those shoulders screamed comic books. Deborah Ann Woll looks a tremendous amount like Karen Page. You can also spot Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson and Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple.

Other than the characters, I liked seeing Murdock’s faith on the table right away. He’s sort of a cultural Catholic in the comics, and it’s interesting to know that will play a role here. And even more exciting? We get a glimpse at Murdock’s acute senses. When your primary character is blind, deciding how viewers will see how he sees is a big decision – especially when said blind person is Murdock himself.

How are you feeling about Daredevil after the first trailer? Will you be binging when it debuts on Netflix on April 10th? Let us know in the comments.

Reminds me a lot of “Arrow”, especially the “protect my city” line.

Between this and the return of Orphan Black, April is going to rock like a motherfucker!  \m/

  3. Joseph S. says:

They cast another freaking brunette! Daredevil is one of the only red haired men in the media who isn’t a total dork or a villain, and they’re making him another brunette!

It’s a casting problem. The list of men who fit the other needs and are either natural redheads or don’t look bizarre with a dye job is very limited. Damian Lewis is the first name that comes to mind but his schedule and price probably ruled him out.

  4. The trailer looked awesome! I personally enjoyed the darker feel because let’s face it, this is Marvel’s first trek into a vigilante-style hero. It’ll be interesting to see how they pull it off.
But yes, we might not have seen much of Kingpin but has that exact same imposing feel that he had in the comics. As for the black suit, he’ll upgrade to the crimson eventually, but its an excellent look and I for one am excited! 😀

Looks awesome! So excited that Netflix is going to be doing a series like this

My expectations have been deflated a little. It looks like a youtube indie movie… and that lazy-ass way of conveying the radar sense is… I hope it’s not the only way they show it.
