It’s been quite the week so far for Fantastic Four fans. We got our first look at behind-the-scenes images, and yesterday we debuted sketches of the Fantastic Four’s costumes on Nerdist News. They were based on descriptions from an inside source and what we saw of Michael B. Jordan in those behind-the-scenes photos indicates we’re right on the money. The first trailer for the Fantastic Four shows similar costumes, too. Why yes, I did just say first trailer. It’s clobberin’ time! And by clobberin’ time, I mean it’s watching the trailer time!
John Campea gave us a heads-up the trailer would be coming, and I don’t know about you, but I’m not disappointed with what I saw. In fact, I’m excited. The Fantastic Four reboot hasn’t really been on my radar, but all it took was seeing Thing and Human Torch to turn that right around.
In case you’ve forgotten the synopisis, this take on the Fantastic Four isn’t going with the origin we’re used to seeing. It sounds closer to Ultimate Fantastic Four when the team is quite young and receive their powers after a teleporter mishap that sends them to an alternate universe where they get their special powers. The trailer definitely sets that up. And while I’m sure Miles Teller (Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic), Kate Mara (Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman), Michael B. Jordan (Johnny Storm/The Human Torch), and Jamie Bell (Ben Grimm/The Thing) will be fine, the age of the characters is the only thing I’m skeptical about.
Fantastic Four hits theaters on August 7, 2015.
What did you think of the Fantastic Four teaser? Let us know in the comments.
It’s fox. Look at our CGI and ignore the lack of plot and source material!!! …like ever other superhero movie they have failed with so far.
Ugh… seriously underwhelmed. And yes, it’s like they looked at Interstellar and said “Hey, that’s doing well. Copy that.”
OK, so once again the Ultimate Universe version is the movie’s basis. That still leaves the mystery of Sue and Johnny’s relationship. I don’t mind that they wanted to not have the group be so lily-white as they were in 1962 but are they breaking up a family to do it? Making one or both of the siblings adopted? Storywise, it would have been easier to make Reed or Ben the ‘diversity hire’ but once Ben becomes the Thing he’s sort of a species unto himself (in the Ultimate version explanation of their powers this is true of each of them) and thus the effort to shake things up a bit gets lost under the orange rocky skin. That leaves Reed but they didn’t choose him for some reason. Oh well.
They weren’t lilly white, Ben is Jewish.
well i bet they dont even go to space in a ship, with no cosmic rays. just in a lab
I was pleasantly impressed. I mean I would like an older cast, but I like the weird science/ horror aspect of the trailer. I mean the original FF had more in common with the monster books and adventure books like Challengers of the Unknown that proceeded it than the superhero books that followed it. The FF was about a “family” of outcasts exploring the microverse, the Negative Zone, etc. That’s the angle a movie needed to take, and I’m glad it did.
Sooo, are they still supposed to be brother and sister? (Johnny and Sue) Because if so, someone was adopted or is a step-sibling now. Wtf?
I got chills, they’re multiplying!
Who is? MCU trolls? Yeah, I agree.
I wanna hear Jamie Bell say “It’s clobberin’ time!”
F**k Fox. They can’t make a good Marvel movie. Just sell Marvel back the rights to everything. I’m not going to see anymore Fox Marvel movies. I will steal the s#!t out of them though. Jerks.
X-men DoFP would like to argue that.
Farseeker – Fair enough, but the new Spiderman movies are terible, X-Men 3 was garbage, there hasn’t been a good Wolverine yet, Punisher was trash, do I need to mention Ghost Rider? Not a good track record.
Spiderman is Sony.
Epic fail! Not the least bit interested. Was waiting for GotG to fly into the trailer. Oh wishful thinking. Why does the narrator sound like Morgan Freeman or am I imagining things?
Is that Doom at 1:17-1:18 ?
My gut reaction? This reaffirms my previous belief that it was miscast and the story will not be engaging at any level. They seem to be going for horror instead of heroic.
We’ll see.
I’m actually pleasantly surprised! I’m still not sold on miles teller as reed….but we’ll see.
This looks like a good movie, and from what I can see the Thing looks a lot better than the previous rubber suit, but this is absolutely, positively not the Fantastic Four.
why not?
Read the comics (take your pick, even “What Ifs?”) and the answer is beyond obvious. I know, it’s the New Millenium, who gives a shite about the source material…
My thought as well, looks like it could be a good movie, just not a FF movie.
-_- the movie look like s**t
Do not go gentle into that good night… OH, wait.
FF doesn’t work without the rest of the Marvel universe around them, much like Spider-Man.
No matter how acceptable the movie itself is, it will never be fantastic.
I call BS on that statement. FF can work prefectly fine without the rest of the MU. Want villains? Dr. Doom, Annihilus, Galactus (the real one not the angry cloud), Mole Man, hell, given the source of the adaption, the Marvel Zombie Universe (they’ll just have to stick with FF and X-Men zombies).
The Fantastic Four was the book the rest of the Marvel Universe grew up around. It was the first book launched when they elected to get back into super-heroes after years of doing everything but. It wasn’t until several issues in (#5 IIRC) that they revived the Sub-mariner to connect the new series to the fallow properties owned by the company from previous incarnations.
If anything, the rest of the Marvel Universe needed the Fantastic Four. The first existing villain the Spider-man fought? Doctor Doom. For that matter, hard up for cash, what group did Spider-man attempt to join in the first issue of his series? The Fantastic Four.
almost expecting Matthew McConaughey and Michael Caine to show up in that trailer.
YES!!!!! Glad it’s not just me. This film truly looks more like is a strange mix of Interstellar and some Hunger Games/ Divergent/ post-apocalyptic teen drama-esque film
