With the success of Deadpool, Hollywood is taking a second look at Rob Liefeld, the co-creator of Marvelâs Merc with a Mouth. Liefeldâs Prophet is reportedly under consideration for a film at 20th Century Fox. But it may not be long until attention falls back on to Youngblood, Liefeldâs first creator-owned comic after co-founding Image Comics.
Youngblood # 1 was one of the top selling independent comics of all time, and it nearly became an animated series in the â90s. Liefeld has posted the demo for the Youngblood animated series that he produced and financed with Roustabout Productions. This isnât a new post (Liefeld has apparently had it up since 2013), but it has been making the rounds again this weekend, courtesy of ComicBook.com.
Although the video lacks audio, it features most of the primary members of Youngblood, including Shaft, Vogue, Badrock, Chapel, Tempest, and even Troll in a scene-stealing spot at the end. The clip also plays up Liefeldâs notion that Youngblood was a very celebrity driven book, as the media arrives immediately after the teamâs victory.
While the Youngblood animated series never took flight, Liefeldâs fellow Image Comics founder, Jim Lee, did strike a deal with CBS to adapt his superhero title, WildC.A.T.s, which ran for a single season. For comparisonâs sake, this is what that series looked like.
Another Image founder, Erik Larson sold a Savage Dragon animated series to USA, which ran for 26 episodes across a single season.
