Last year, Universal kicked off its shared monster universe with Dracula Untold, the origin story of one of the most feared vampires in all of cinema, Count Dracula. While Bram Stoker’s revolutionary characterization was only loosely based on the historical figure Vlad The Impaler, Dracula Untold sought to dive into the history of Vlad like no other mainstream movie had.

Nerdist’s own Clarke Wolfe had the opportunity to travel to Romania and go behind the legend of Vlad Tepes and visit historical locations throughout the country, speak with noted historians and visit the castle in Transylvania where Stoker’s legend was inspired. Plus, actor Luke Evans joined us to discuss bringing the character to life, working with Game of Thrones favorite Charles Dance and what might be in store for his character as the Universal Monsters are reborn for modern audiences.
