They may be evil, but we still love Disney villains anyway. Everyone has their own personal favorite, whether it be popular choices like Ursula from The Little Mermaid or more obscure characters such as Madam Mim from The Sword in the Stone. Many are defeated or banished forever at the end of Disney flicks, but what if that wasnât the end of the story? What if these villains live on and had children of their very own?
A new TV movie will look at the next generation of Disney villains struggling to grow up in the modern world. The Descendants, premiering on the Disney Channel in the U.S. this summer, is billed as a âmodern day fairytaleâ that introduces us to the teenage offspring of classic Disney villains â Maleficent, the Evil Queen, Cruella de Vil and Jafar. The DCOM (that’s Disney Channel Original Movie, for those of us in the know) boasts a cast including Kristin Chenoweth as Maleficent. Nerdist previously spoke to Chenoweth about portraying the classic Disney villainness when the project was first announced.
A familiar name will be returning to bring The Descandants to audiences. Emmy Award-winning director and choreographer Kenny Ortega, famous for helming the High School Musical franchise, returns to direct, choreograph, and executive-produce the movie.
