Watch Danny Elfman Perform Songs from THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS

It’s a rather odd thing to realize how many films double as both horror and holiday. Gremlins, Rare Exports, Krampus, and Home Alone (which is a film about a sociopath torturing his near invincible home invaders) all hold a special place in our hearts, but there’s one in the genre that will always be the favorite: Tim Burton and Henry Selick’s The Nightmare Before Christmas. Among all the iconic and groundbreaking aspects of the 1994 classic, its music will likely be what stands the test of time decades from now. And of course, that’s all due to musical genius Danny Elfman.

The PBS series Live from Lincoln Center recently broadcast a nearly two-hour concert of Danny Elfman’s music from Tim Burton films (sorry Oingo Boingo fans, just the Burton stuff). The Burton/Elfman collaboration is just as prevalent as putting Johnny Depp and/or Helena Bonham Carter in every movie he does, and it’s astonishing just how much of the music is ingrained in our experiences of the films. Oh, and did we mention that the entire concert is available online?

Over the course of the two-hour video, the 88-piece orchestra plays an assortment of iconic songs, including a few from The Nightmare Before Christmas sung by Elfman himself (who provided Jack Skellington’s singing voice for the film) that start around the hour and half mark. The entire concert is a wonderful audible stroll down movie memory lane with music from Batman, Pee Wee’s Big Adventure, Beetlejuice, Alice in Wonderland, Mars Attacks, Edward Scissorhands, and more.
