Prepare for the high-pitched squeeing of nerds everywhere.
Disney and Marvel have released the clip that is inspiring amazing fan art, and the more crafty-inclined among us: Dancing Baby Groot. If you haven’t managed to get your butt into a movie theater for Guardians of the Galaxy yet, this clip is pretty spoilery (also, what are you waiting for? Go see it!) but without giving too much away, we can say that we were all thrilled to see Rocket bring Groot along for future adventures. The first adventure? Dancing to the Jackson 5 like no one is watching.
In addition to the clip, Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn has also released some great behind the scenes information for our brains to feast on:
The dancing? It’s all him, baby:
“Baby Groot dancing is 100 percent me. I was too embarrassed for anyone to be there, so I made everyone leave the room and I set up a camera and I videotaped myself dancing. Then I sent the video to the animators and had them animate over that. I begged them not to leak the video!â€
And if you were wondering about the scene’s placement? Gunn says it was originally scripted as an end-of-film tag but it worked so well that he wanted to make sure no one in the audience missed it. He even knew going in which classic song he wanted to play in the background, “I Want You Back,†which happens to be his favorite Jackson 5 track.
Baby Groot is quickly becoming the Dancing Baby of the Internet generation. Now you can have it without the blurriness of a bootlegged Vine clip and stare at it as obsessively (like the entire Nerdist crew is today) while chanting “We are Groot! We are Groot!†repeatedly.

Before anyone trashes me for saying this, keep in mind that I’m a parent who avoids newly released films as a courtesy for other paying customers….
Disney sure knows how to kill a good thing.
Guardians was a movie I actually did see in the theater because it was kid-friendly enough to take my daughters to. But IF I didnt see it then the insane amount of trailer material would’ve shown me pretty much the entire movie.
Okay, well slam away while I program my TiVo to record anything but that Frozen special for a 10mo old film.
Unfortunately, so many trailers give away the story. In defense of this movie, this was a virtually unknown entity. Non comic book fans have heard of the Avengers, X-Men, The Fantastic Four, etc. Not many have heard of GotG. I’m not an acid CB reader so I didn’t know. I would have seen it because of Marvel and Chris Pratt anyway but I went to see it opening weekend because of the trailer.
What story plots did the trailers show? Seriously? All we saw was them lined up and their names and teensy history listed, the fact Star Lord finds an orb, and they go into a space battle. The trailer never shows the true baddie, how they all met, how they escape, where Star Lord came from…I mean, come on.
Then quit watching the trailers and stay away from social media.
For GotG I found the trailers very good at not revealing too much while being entertaining in their own right. Plotwise what was revealed was that there was an orb, a group of misfits, a villain, and some fun dialog.
