Ever since DC Comics announced its mammoth two-month comic book event, Convergence, everyone has been wondering what could be in store for the DC Universe. Over the past few months, we’ve seen hints that classic universes, characters, and storylines will re-emerge from the annals of retconned comic book history to do righteous battle once more. If it sounds confusing, don’t worry–DC Comics co-publisher Dan DiDio explains everything you need to know in this new video.
From what we know so far, Brainiac has stolen cities at the moment of their destruction, placing them under domes at the edge of time and space. Many of these domes contain characters from past timelines (as in pre-New 52/Crisis/Flashpoint/whatever), and they have all been trapped in their glass-covered hells for approximately a year. A brand new villain named Telos has a different idea though, and releases all the domes at once, which leads to some wildly unexpected reactions (e.g. massive, universe-threatening battles).
“Here with Convergence, we have a chance to revisit characters who were left unresolved,” DiDio explains in the video. For many fans, a chance to see pre-New 52 and pre-Crisis on Infinite Earths versions of their favorite characters interacting with one another on the printed page once more is the nerd equivalent of catnip–they can’t get enough. My only request is that we get to say hello to our old pal, hook-hand Aquaman. Man, that guy was a badass.

April 1st comes, and they release one book: a new Hawk and Dove written and drawn by Rob Liefeld.
Greatest April Fools prank ever.
Apparently all the really talented comic book artists are now with DC? That art looked amazing! I’ve always been a Marvel person, but maybe an even like this will provide and inroad for me to start reading a few titles without feeling so much like I’m decades behind… a new beginning kind of thing.
And then Thanos?
