Are you a fan of musical theater and a Star Wars fan? If you happen to fall into both categories,  then we’ve got some news that will blow your mind — the legendary Barbra Streisand has teamed with Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Daisy Ridley — along with Les Miserables‘ Anne Hathaway — to sing with her on her new album Encore: Movie Partners Sing Broadway. On this new album, Barbra Streisand sings classic Broadway tunes together with today’s big Hollywood stars. For her collaboration with Ridley and Hathaway, Streisand chose “At the Ballet,” the Marvin Hamlisch composed tune from A Chorus Line.
So how did this collaboration come about, when Star Wars‘ Daisy Ridley has no known prior experience singing musical theater? According to the video (which you can view above, via BroadwayWorld) Ridley was auditioning for Streisand’s upcoming movie version of Gypsy, when Babs asked her if she could sing. Ridley said yes, and despite never having recorded a note in her life, she was asked to participate in the album. That’s some charmed life Ms. Ridley has–she went from appearing in one small movie to being the lead in the biggest movie franchise ever, and then went from never having recorded a song to recording one with the most famous female vocalist of all time.
Along with Ridley and Anne Hathaway, Encore is filled with collaborations with actors well known and beloved by the nerd crowd: there’s “Loving You” from Passion with The Conjuring’s Patrick Wilson; “Any Moment Now” from Smile with Wolverine himself, Hugh Jackman; My Fair Lady’s “I’ve Grown Accustomed to Her Face” with Star Trek’s  Chris Pine; Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory’s “Pure Imagination” with Family Guy’s Seth MacFarlane; and Annie Get Your Gun’s “Anything You Can Do” with future Ghostbuster Melissa McCarthy. You can now pre-order Encore: Movie Partners Sing Broadway at Amazon or Apple Music.
