Watch a Supercut of 150 Movie Title Name Drops

A good film can take you away with it, transporting you to a new place and time. But not every film is perfect–you’ll occasionally find yourself taken out of the fantasy with a bad accent, odd cameo, or poorly timed stunt. And of all the things that can remind us that we’re watching a movie, nothing is more glaring than when a character name drops their own movie.

This supercut was compiled by a Vimeo user named Roman Holiday and gives us 150 examples of characters saying the title of the movies they’re in. They’re not all bad, but watching so many in such rapid succession makes us cringe a little bit knowing that many of them never needed to be so forced. Some films owe their titles to specific lines of dialogue and it’s those that seem a bit more natural in their delivery. However, films like Suicide Squad, Face/Off, Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot and even Guardians of the Galaxy seem to hesitate just slightly as if to make everyone aware of what they’re doing.

The thing that’s particularly delightful about the video is how this isn’t isolated to just one type of movie–this appears to happen in films of all genres, time periods, and general quality. No film is safe, be it Oscar winner or schlocky action flick. This means that no matter what film we’re watching, we can always have the CinemaSins “Roll Credits!” on hand to point out when the film wants to remind the audience of what they’re watching.

What’s your favorite (or least favorite) example of this title name drop? What good ones were missed? Let’s discuss in the comments below!
