6:15 Movie Clip is First-Person Zombie Horror (All in One Take)

Zombies: can’t live with ’em, cant live without ’em, am I right?

OK, you can definitely live without zombies. But, as of late, the horror genre is still onboard with the undead in a big way. Fear The Walking Dead premiered to record numbers earlier this week and has already been greenlit for a second season; Cooties, the kid-centric zombie flick starring Elijah Wood and Rainn Wilson hits theaters next month; and the raunchy Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse will follow in October in all of its NSFW glory.

While the zombie craze shows no sign of dying out, fresh takes on a familiar genre are always appreciated and we at Nerdist couldn’t be more intrigued by the first clip of 6:15, a forthcoming independent feature film that landed on the web today. With tonal homages to the Romero Dead films, 6:15 takes the terror to the next level by not only employing practical effects but also by being shot in first-person POV and appearing as one continuous take. Talk about ambitious!

Written and directed by Ben Samuels, the film follows a family trying to survive in rural Pennsylvania after a plague of zombies begins invading their once-peaceful home. Taking place in real time, the film features effects from three Face/Off contestants, and the movie stars Montana Marks (Camp Dread), Amy Rutledge (The Neighbor), Matt Riker (Splinter Cell: Extinction), Rosebud Baker (Girls Who Like Boys Who Like Boys), and Bradford How (MuchMusic VJ).

Made outside the studio system on location in what the filmmakers call “Romero’s Pennsylvania,” 6:15 evokes the experience of survival horror video games in the best way. Coming on the heels of Hardcore, the Sharlto Copley-starring first-person action movie, this could be the start of a new trend in filmmaking. The movie has been accepted to FirstGlance Philadelphia Film Fest and is currently seeking distribution.

What do you think, horror nerds? Does an immersive zombie feature make you as nervous/excited/terrified as it makes us? Scream all about it in the comments below.
