Christopher Nolan fans, mark your calendars! We now know when his next film will arrive in theaters. Warner Bros. has announced that Nolanâs next movie will be released on July 21, 2017.
Beyond that, nothing is currently known about Nolanâs next project — not the premise, the cast, nor the title has been announced. One of the few things that we can infer about Nolanâs next movie is that Michael Caine will probably be in it alongside a few cast members from some of Nolanâs previous films.
Nolanâs first film was Following, a 1998 thriller that was not widely seen. Nolanâs follow up project, Memento, was released in 2000, and it quickly won critical acclaim that helped create a fan following for Nolan.
Warner Bros. has been involved with all of Nolanâs post-Memento films, beginning with Insomnia and continuing on with The Prestige, Inception, and most recently Interstellar. Warner Bros. also produced Nolanâs Batman trilogy: Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and The Dark Knight Rises. Nolanâs Batman films are widely credited with revitalizing the franchise and paving the way for Warner Bros.â aggressive release schedule for its upcoming DC Comics superhero films.
Nolanâs tenure on the Batman films also elevated his clout among casual moviegoers to the point where both Inception and Interstellar became blockbuster hits even without the backing of a pre-existing franchise. To the general public, Inception and Interstellar were event films because they were directed by Nolan, and Warner Bros. seems to be banking on that perception by placing his next project in the middle of the crowded summer movie season.
