Warner Bros. Officially Announces Cast for Its SUICIDE SQUAD Movie

After many months of speculation, Warner Brothers and DC Entertainment has made the cast of David Ayer’s adaptation of the Suicide Squad official: Jared Leto will have the unenviable task of following up Heath Ledger as the Joker, Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street) will play the Joker’s occasional girlfriend (and psychiatrist) Harley Quinn, Will Smith will play Deadshot, Tom Hardy will play Task Force X leader Rick Flag, Jai Courtney (Terminator: Genysis) will play Captain Boomerang, and Cara Delevingne will play the Enchantress (yes, DC has their own Enchantress, she’s not just a villain for Marvel’s Thor comics).

Rumor has it that there are still a handful of parts left to fill, including that of Task Force X co-leader Amanda Waller, who is said to be played by Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, or even possibly Oprah Winfrey, who is the studio’s #1 choice. Jesse Eisenberg is still said to be in the mix to reprise his Batman v Superman role as Lex Luthor as well, although there has been no official confirmation as of yet.

Suicide Squad is set for an August 5, 2016 release date. Charles Roven is producing along with Zack Snyder and Deborah Snyder, who seem to have their hands in all the DC Comics movies these days, as well as DC Entertainment CCO Geoff Johns. For those out there not familiar with the team, the Suicide Squad is really “Task Force X”, a Dirty Dozen-type group of supervillains who are brought together to tackle high-risk black ops missions for the government. If they survive, they get reduced sentences, and in some cases, freedom. Mostly though, they’re pretty much just expected to die.

  1. Alex says:

Why not use the woman playing Amanda Waller in Arrow?? That would be easiest plan of action, no? (Although I love Viola in everything she does, I think it would be simple and effective to just use the same Waller. Kind of connects the tv series to the movies.)

    • Nathan says:

Because DC is keeping their TV shows separate from their movies. And if they did do that it would not make sense why Deadshot is played by a different person.

  2. Mario says:

i will wait and see how Smith will do, though i think he is to known kinda.
Oprah winfrey does NOT sound like someone i want to see as Waller !

  3. Ryan O says:

Also starring Jaden Smith as Noshot
