Warner Bros. Interactive Cancels MORTAL KOMBAT X on PS3 and Xbox 360

Before Mortal Kombat X launched last April, the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 ports of the game were slated to hit stores alongside the Playstation 4 and Xbox One versions. However, the Mortal Kombat X last gen ports were then delayed until the fall. And now, Warner Bros. Interactive has essentially said “FINISH THEM!” before breaking out a Fatality.

In a statement on the Mortal Kombat X community website, a spokesman for Warner Bros. Interactive said “After months of development, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has come to the regrettable conclusion that we cannot release Mortal Kombat X for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Please know our teams worked diligently to meet the quality standards set by the current-gen versions of the game. We were not able to get the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions to the quality expected of a Mortal Kombat game and are very sorry for not being able to deliver the products as originally planned.”

High Voltage Software was the company behind the Mortal Kombat X ports for the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC, while the PS4 and Xbox One versions were developed and created by NetherRealm. The demise of the last gen Mortal Kombat X ports is widely thought to be due to the lack of processing power compared to the current generation of gaming consoles.

There are still gamers who haven’t made the leap to either of the current gen consoles. But it appears that the days of Xbox 360 and PS3 users getting ports of the latest titles could be coming to an end in the near future.

Nerdist gamers, share your thoughts on the cancellation of the Mortal Kombat X last gen titles in the comment section below!
