Warner Bros. Announces New Animated SCOOBY-DOO Movie for 2018

It’s been just over a decade since the last Scooby-Doo movie hit theaters, but Warner Bros. is ready to try again. The studio has announced plans for an all-new animated Scooby-Doo feature film that will be released in September 2018.

Tony Cervone will direct the new Scooby-Doo animated movie, and his previous directing credits include Scooby-Doo! And Kiss: Rock and Roll Mystery, Tom and Jerry: Spy Quest, The Flintstones & WWE: Stone Age Smackdown, Duck Dodgers, and The Looney Tunes Show. Cervone was also a supervising producer of the Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated TV series and he’s had a long career in animation.

Matt Lieberman (Dr. Dolittle: Tail to the Chief) is set to write the Scooby-Doo script, and Allison Abbate (The Iron Giant) will produce the film with Charles Roven and Richard Suckle, the duo who produced American Hustle and the two live-action Scooby-Doo films that came out in 2002 and 2004, respectively.

The original Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! animated series was created by Joe Ruby and Ken Spears in 1969. The show followed the adventures of a talking (and often cowardly) Great Dane and the four teenagers who comprised Mystery Incorporated: Fred Jones, Daphne Blake, Velma Dinkley, and Norville “Shaggy” Rogers as they stumbled onto mysteries and exposed the villain-of-the-week…which was almost always an old man who said “ I would have gotten away with it too, if it weren’t for you meddling kids.”

Scooby-Doo’s enduring popularity has led to 11 subsequent animated series, the two previously mentioned live-action films, and several direct-to-video animated features. The thirteenth Scooby-Doo animated series, Be Cool, Scooby-Doo! is set to debut this fall on Boomerang.

The new Scooby-Doo animated film will debut in theaters on September 21, 2018.
