Whether you thoroughly enjoy LEGO video games or you prefer to play with the bricks physically, you might want to grab some rolls of paper towels, because the following development is certain to make you drool for days. Warner Bros. Interactive and The LEGO Group are teaming up once again to bring us LEGO Dimensions, a new game that will combine the traditional LEGO game format that we know and love, with the physical brick building fun that most of us grew up with. Basically: You’ll be able to build LEGOS here in earth realm (hehe), and then they can be transferred into the game via the LEGO Toy Pad. My guess is that the Toy Pad operates on NFC-technology, similar to that seen in the Skylanders and Disney Infinity franchises.
What makes this all the more sweet, however, is the amount of different intellectual properties that will be involved in the game. LEGO Dimensions will feature multiple universes such as DC Comics, The Lord of the Rings, The LEGO Movie, The Wizard of Oz, LEGO Ninjago, Back to the Future, and more that have yet to be announced. Needless to say, the cast of characters for this game is, in a word, stacked. Pun totally intended.
It’s hard to ignore the success the LEGO video games have seen over the years by giving a fun family take on some of the most popular action-fantasy franchises. This new step for the LEGO game series couldn’t seem more appropriate! If this works as it’s being advertisedâwith the added incentive of LEGO customizationâyou have to wonder how other NFC-based franchises will respond so that they don’t feel too outdated.
LEGO Dimensions is set to hit stores on September 27, for the PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and Wii U.
Is this your LEGO dream come true? Did Community‘s Joel McHale sell this game to you on day one with his performance in the announcement trailer? Stack all of your deepest thought in the comments below.
